On October, 20, 2012, the Wilmington College football team recorded their first win of the season against the Marietta Pioneers.

The game was a hard fought battle between both OAC teams, but Wilmington had the edge with a game winning field goal by Max Gabbard. The Wilmington team left with a 13-12 win ending a streak of 32 straight losses.

Junior quarterback Brandon Arehart stated, “It took the whole team to get the win, we were finally rewarded for all the hard work that we give in and out of season, it was good to get the monkey off our backs.”

The quaker defense forced the pioneers to one interception and one lost fumble. The Quaker offense had 217 yards of total offense, but scored when they needed too. Also, Max Gabbard was 2-2 on field goal attempts, with a career long of 35 yards.

Scott Duncan (sophomore lineman) said, “The game showed what we are capable of doing, it showed we never gave up and gave us confidence looking forward.”

The interim coach, Jay Wisnonger, got his first win for the Wilmington College team in thirty-two games. With a win against the pioneers, the Quakers look to continue their journey of winning football games.
