Blood at the Root, a Success for Student Actors

On Thursday April 20th and Friday April 21st, Wilmington College students performed the play Blood at the Root in the Heiland Theatre at the Boyd Cultural Arts Center. Blood of the Root is based off of the story of the “Jena Six,” six black high school students in Jena, Louisiana who were initially charged with attempted murder for a school fight after being provoked with three nooses hanging from a tree on campus. The Collegiate Sport Research Institute (CSRI) holds a conference every year at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina and this year’s conference marks its tenth year. The purpose of this conference is to bring academic researchers, students, and industry professionals together to discuss important research findings and issues facing the collegiate sport industry. On Friday March 10, Chip Murdock took seven lucky Wilmington students on an educational trip to Kentucky and Tennessee. Each semester, Murdock, who is the Director of Multicultural Affairs, takes students on a trip to educate them on the history and experiences of different cultures. On Saturday February 25, the Wilmington Lady Quakers traveled to Ada, Ohio to take on the #5 and undefeated Ohio Northern Polar Bears in the Ohio Athletic Championship game. The Lady Quakers came into the game with a record of 18-9, while the Polar Bears had an unblemished 26-0 record.
