Wilmington College offers its students a multitude of opportunities to enhance their college experience. One such chance is the ability to create new, exciting organizations; Marissa Johnson took advantage of this ability and founded the Production Club, a club dedicated to the art and applications of film.

Production Club was launched during the fall semester of 2017. Since then, it has grown to be a fully student-ran operation led by President Marissa Johnson and Vice President Maraya Wahl.

Johnson started her club because she “thought it would be a fun way to combine film, photography, graphic design, and students’ interests, while simultaneously promoting the school.”

Many schools have a presence on a variety of social media platforms; Wilmington College differs from those schools because it has very little content on YouTube, according to Johnson. Her club’s projects can fix that problem.

Parallel to that aspiration, Johnson hopes that “this will grow into something truly amazing and help students in any major discover their love for video-making. I want to create a space where individuals find a common interest.”

The films that are made in this club can be about anything – it is up to the members to brainstorm ideas, create the videos, and edit the footage into a finished product. Members can be assisted at any stage of the process, but the goal is to give students the opportunity to explore and learn by themselves and not to lectured to.

“All skill levels are welcomed to join. No matter who you are or what experience you have, there should be a way for you to have fun while creating something brilliant. I want all members to bring their skills to the table and share them with others,” remarked Johnson.

College is a time to explore new things, take chances, and make mistakes. Why not get messy with movie-making and film development? Production Club meets on Wednesdays at 4:30 pm. If interested about joining, students can attend a meeting or message Marissa Johnson on the Wilmington College App.
