One of Kappa Delta Sorority’s local philanthropies is the Girl Scouts. A handful of local troops come to every event held, and there are even professors at Wilmington College that have daughters in the Girl Scouts that get involved.
It is important to Kappa Delta to instill confidence in young girls through these events. Every Girl Scout event must hold an educational aspect; they also hold a social aspect because the girls are building relationships with other girls outside of their troop along with Kappa Delta’s.
The next Girl Scout event is International Girls Day! International Girls’ Day (IGD) is a holiday Kappa Delta created to celebrate all kinds of girls with all kinds of interests and abilities. The motto of International Girls Day is “She Can Do Anything.” It is a day to build confidence in girls and help them realize their potential. The official day of IGD is November 14th, but Kappa Delta’s event is on November 18th.
Kappa Delta holds an event every year open to all Girl Scouts. This year the focus will be on agriculture. Maddie Fix is the current Community Service chair that helps get all of the events together. “I think it is fun and we always gets a positive [community] response from the girls and parents,” shares Maddie.
