Senior night had a happy ending for the four senior men’s basketball players on Wednesday night, as Wilmington defeated Capital 86-67 in a true team effort. The Quakers played in front of their largest home crowd of the year and got even with the Crusaders after losing by 14 earlier this season.
Wilmington College honored seniors Christian Jones, Nathan Scott, Jordan Jones, and D.J. Iles pregame, and the seniors came out hot to start the game. The Quakers went on a 23-6 run to open the contest, but Capital found their rhythm toward the middle of the first half, cutting the Quaker lead to three with just a few minutes to go before the half. The Quakers picked up steam and ended the half up 38-29, and took control of the second half, finishing out senior night on a high note.
The Quakers had five players score in double digits on Wednesday, including all four seniors. Senior guard Christian Jones led the team in scoring with 19 points and added 6 rebounds, while going a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line. Nathan Scott had a near double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds in just 19 minutes played.
This victory puts Wilmington in sixth-place in the OAC, and a win at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday would secure a conference tournament berth for the Quakers after missing the postseason last year.
