Serve Our Little Patch of the Universe at the 24th Annual Quake

WC’s 24th Annual Quake is right around the corner. Saturday, April 29 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., over 100 volunteers will be gathering for lunch and local community service. Everyone is meeting in the Pavilion behind Pyle.

Hillary Mitchell, Vice President/Publicity

Led by the Service Leaders Executive Board (SLEB), the Quake is the largest community service event provided to Wilmington College students throughout the year.

Hillary Mitchell, the Vice President/Publicity Chair, shares, “I had so much fun at last year’s Quake and I loved knowing I was helping the community that surrounds this school. Service is such an integral part of the WC story and I’m so proud to be a part of that.”

Students will gather at noon for a home-cooked lunch. After the work is done and teams reflect, Rita’s Italian Ice will be served! The first 125 signed up will be receiving a sticker.

Tara Lydy shares, “This is the most volunteers we have received for a couple years!”

Each group will be led by a site leader – a member of SLEB – who will assist in travel and communication with the volunteer sites. The work will include landscaping, painting, clean-up, and more. Sites include the Continental Manor, Camp Kirkwood, cleanup with Mike Allbright, Clinton County Homeless Shelter, Denver Place Elementary School, Sugar Grove Cemetary, Grow Food Grow Hope, Adopt-a-Highway, park cleanup, Clinton Memorial Hospital, and Wilmington Middle School.

Jen Cochran, Denver Place Elementary Chair

“As the site leader for Denver Place Elementary’s project, I would love to invite all the wonderful volunteer htat have helped make a difference in the lives of so many children this past year,” shares Jen Cochran, Denver Elementary Chair. “It would mean so much to myself, the students and our community if you served the local universe!”

SLEB members have been keeping students informed through use of posters, the app, and tabling in Pyle.
