SGA: What They Discussed on September 10

The Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its weekly open meeting on Tuesday. All members of the Wilmington College community are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings as it is a direct form of communication to the student government.  

Approximately 10 people attended the meeting. They represented SGA, Sodexo, and The Witness.

Below are the topics presented by the SGA board of the Sept. 10 meeting:

Cody Martin, the vice president of administration, had nothing to report.

Chase Menchofer, the vice president of faculty, alumni, and trustees, had nothing to report.

Chris Zody, the vice president of SGA, was absent and had nothing to report.

Nate Johnson, the vice president of finance, reported that a mandatory budget meeting took place last week for student organizations. About a dozen student groups were not in attendance.

Logan Schroer, the vice president of elections, reported that the Homecoming banner contest has the theme of “board games.” Elections took place this week. Shirts will be available for $5. 

Wil Overholt, the vice president of public relations, reported that a social media campaign for a Homecoming spirit week will begin on Monday. The scrolling announcements in Pyle Center are open to all groups; all content must be brand compliant and approved by Student Affairs. 

Kameron Rinehart, the president of SGA, reported that student agendas are still available. The Pyle Center scrolling announcements are updated daily. The Student Senate is now expected to begin meeting on Sept. 24.

Sigrid Solomon, SGA’s adviser, reported that she attended a Homecoming planning meeting that confirmed that multiple inflatables will be a part of the Homecoming festivities. 

Other topic points presented by non-SGA attendees include:

A Sodexo representative asked for feedback regarding the service that Sodexo provides. Farm Bureau is expected to plant seeds in the tower gardens this week. Lunch services in the T.O.P. begin at 11:30 a.m. Food services starting on Friday evening through Sunday evening follow different hours from the normal weekday hours. A “Wild Wild West” event will take place on Oct. 3. Sodexo now offers a birthday discount towards their new marketplace.

APB will have a movie showing and campfire on Friday night at 9:09. A video game tournament will take place next Wednesday in The Underground. The Friday of Homecoming will feature a concert on The Mall. APB will be sponsoring trips to various sporting events in the upcoming weeks.
