Shining A Light on SGA Candidates

The SGA elections are coming up and I would like to shine a light on all the candidates who are running for each position as we are having a record-breaking number of candidates. This election has been a tough one, but we as a Student Government Association trust you as a Student Body to vote for who you feel fits best as a leader of the Student Body!

Lawrence Daya

Lawrence Daya

Lawrence Daya is a junior running for the position of Student Body President, Daya is also the only candidate running unopposed. Daya has displayed his skills with SGA as he has served for the past two years as VP of Administration and VP of Faculty, Alumni, and Trustees. Daya also serves on the Student Philanthropy Council, is a member of the swim team, and a member of SMLC. Junior Andrea Barga says “Lawrence has great leadership skills and I think this will help us take SGA to the next level.”

Andrea Barga is running for Vice President. Andrea has served on the SGA board for a year, operating as our VP of Administration. She is always joyful, and ready to help anyone who needs it! While already serving on Student Government, Barga has been a member of Kappa Delta since her freshman year, showcasing her commitment. Senior Travis Scheadler says, “You should vote for Andrea because she has quality experience, understands SGA, and is ready to leave a positive impact on the student body and this campus.”

Ian Darras

Ian Darras

Ian Darras is a freshman who is also running for the position of Vice President. As a freshman Darras is already involved with football, swim, and water polo; which all require dedication, time management, positive attitude, and many more qualities that will come in handy for VP. Fellow swimmer Alyssa Rogers says, “He’s a very happy go lucky person, and has friends in all circles on campus. He’s on the football team and swim team, while also keeping good grades, which just shows how dedicated and determined he is.”

Ariana Riccardi is running for Vice President of Faculty, Alumni, and Trustees. Riccardi is a freshman this year and is very driven to make a difference on this campus. Freshman Karlie Payton says “She’s a great friend so I’ve learned that she’s willing to listen to anybody’s story, put in a helping hand even when it isn’t expected…as someone who is close to her I think being a part of SGA is what her personality is all about!”

Jeff Clydesdale

Jeff Clydesdale is a sophomore running for the position of Vice President of Faculty, Alumni, and Trustees. Clydesdale is driven to become more involved on campus this year and SGA is what he has set his sights on! Clydesdale is a RA for AP and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He served as recruitment chair for his fraternity this semester and helped bring in the largest class Lambda Chi has seen in years, fellow fraternity brother Nathan Henderson says, “He’s someone I can really rely on to be there if I need anything and he is someone who puts others first.”

Cheyann McKee

Cheyann McKee

Cheyann McKee is running for Vice President of Elections. McKee is a sophomore who has a bubbly attitude and seems driven and has a passion for change! On campus McKee is a part of the Wilmington Chorale, a member of BSI where she currently serves as Vice President and secretary, and she also serves as a board member with Diversity and Inclusion, and the Student Life commitee. Fellow chorale member Shelby Dodds says, “Cheyann strives as a leader not only as a student but also a member of her community. The time and effort she puts in her work is extraordinary. For just the little amount I have known her she puts 110% in everything she does whether it be in her school and music to her friendships and relationships with her peers.”

Chris Zody

Chris Zody

Chris Zody is a freshman running for the Vice President of Elections position for Student Government! Zody is a very socialable person, who also happens to be a Plunger! So, his leadership skills are shown already as a freshman! The passion that Zody shows as a freshman is represented by what other think of him, Sophomore Jeff Clydesdale says, “Chris Zody is a respectable man who would demonstrate amazing qualities as an SGA member. He is well liked among his freshman class and would represent the student body well.”

Emily Reid

Emily Reid

Emily Reid is a sophomore running for the Vice President of Finance! Reid has a great personality and understanding of finances as she is an accounting major and was actually recommended by one of our faculty members (will remain confidential). Reid is a member of Delta Theta Sigma lil’ sis sorority and has a great presence in her sorority! Her fellow sorority sister, senior Zara Zeller says, “She is awesome! She is always there, she’s willing to do anything, she is an accounting major, so it just makes sense, she loves numbers, and she actually wants to do things to help the student body.”

Laura Swinehart

Laura Swinehart

Laura Swinehart is a sophomore running for the position of Vice President of finance. Swinehart is not only a swimmer, but she holds a strong presence in the AG community and is also an RA this year. Swinehart’s teammates describe her as energetic, encouraging, motivating, and fun; which all are important characteristics for this position. Sophomore Aryn Copeland says, “Laura is not only friendly, always in a good mood, but she is a hard worker, and I think the combination of the being friendly and hard working would benefit the Student Government Board.”

Kameron Rinehart

Kameron Rinehart is a sophomore running for the position of Vice President of Administration. Rinehart is nowhere new to the concept of leadership having served for FFA and being a RA in AP and taking over for Vice President of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Senior Brandin Johnson says, “His professionalism and personality really stand out among the Sophomore class. This also makes him more personable to express the opinion and voice of the student body.”

Nic Keller

Nic Keller

Nic Keller is a freshman running for the position of Vice President of Administration, Keller was encouraged to do so by his role model, Lawrence Daya, who held the position before. Keller is a member of the swim team and the pep band. Role model and friend Lawrence Daya says, “I’ve known Nic since he visited Wilmington, and he’s always shown he’s wanted to be a leader and be involved on campus. He’s incredibly hard working both at practice and as his double major in AT and theater, and I think that multi-tasking ability would be fantastic on the SGA board!”

Hillary Mitchell

Hillary Mitchell

Hillary Mitchell is a junior running for the position of Vice President of Public Relations. Mitchell is not shy to the publicity world having served on the Service Leader Executive Board and being a writer/co-editor for The Witness. Being able to bring her publicity skills as a communication arts major to the Student Government Association will not only benefit her but the board as well. Junior Keni Brown says, “Hillary Mitchell deserves the spot for SGA for her renowned prowess in all things Public Relations. Having worked with Mitch in a PR position through SLEB, I’ve been able to witness the unique designs, brainstorms, and charisma, with which she can attract people to the cause she is promoting.”

Darron Crump

Darron Crump

Darron Crump is running for VP of Public Relations. You may also know him as your favorite Sandella’s employee. Darron is a laid back and caring guy, who makes sure no one feels left out. He is a long way from home in Detroit, Michigan; and has had many firsts since coming to Wilmington (like eating Chipotle for the first time), so help Darron have another first of being elected VP of PR. Junior Ysmeen Jilani says, “He is a people person and he seems to be very sociable around campus.”
