Staff Restructuring in Student Affairs

Letter from Sigrid Solomon, Vice President for Student Affairs

Good Afternoon Friends!

Tara Lydy

I know that many of you are getting ready for Homecoming Festivities but I wanted to inform you of a few personnel changes in Student Affairs.  Tara Lydy will be leaving us to manage the new yogurt shop that she and Ken have been working so hard to get up and running.  Tara’s last day will be Tuesday, October 31st, she has been with the College as a staff member for 19 ½ years.  As many of you know in this amount of time Tara has selflessly provided our students with the best experiences as it relates to New Student Orientation and Service & Civic Engagement.  She will be missed dearly, but if any of you really know her, she has done an excellent job of updating her SOPs to be able to pass the torch in a seamless fashion.

Bud Lewis will be taking advantage of President’s Jim offer for early retirement and will be wrapping up his full-time responsibilities of Greek Life and Coaching at the end of this semester.  Bud has been here for 43 years and has worn many different hats in Students Affairs- Campus Activities, Wellness, Leadership Scholars Program, and Greek Life to name a few.  We are extremely grateful for Bud as he had the awesome pleasure to start many of the initiatives/areas with Student Affairs.  He will be missed in our area but he has a new part-time opportunity with the College to spearhead International Recruiting.

Bud Lewis

We wish them well!

Please join us on October 27th at 4pm in Thomas Lounge (tentatively) for a farewell gathering for Tara.  We will collaborate with Academic Affairs and Athletics for a farewell reception for Bud and other retirees and will communicate the date in a future email.

Being mindful of the College’s strategic plan and budget, we will be restructuring our area and the following changes will take place in order to continue to provide our students with the best possible experience here at Wilmington College

You might be thinking, how will Student Affairs manage?  Being mindful of the College’s strategic plan and budget, we will be restructuring our area and the following changes will take place in order to continue to provide our students with the best possible experience here at Wilmington College:

·         During November and December, I will temporarily assume Tara’s responsibilities.

·         Starting in January 2018, Chip Murdock will take on Service & Civic Engagement responsibilities, fitting very nicely with all of his efforts in Diversity & Inclusion.

·         Starting in January 2018, Michael Allbright will be promoted to Associate VP for Student Affairs.  His new responsibilities will include New Student Orientation, Campus Activities, and Greek Life along with overseeing the Housing and Residence Life area.

·         We will be posting for Michael’s replacement as a Director of Housing and Residence Life, this position will report directly to Michael.

Please note the only change to President’s Jim email on August 8th of who does what is that Chip will no longer co-advise APB, everything else stays the same:
