Wilmington, OH – The Wilmington College Men’s basketball team cruised to an 85-57 victory over the Defiance Yellow Jackets in their home open on Wednesday, November 29th.

After a slow start by both teams in the first couple of minutes, the Quakers seized control of the game and did not look back. Wilmington got a huge contribution of the bench from junior guards Will Patrick and Kevin Lewis. When the Quakers were struggling early on the offensive side of the ball, Patrick came in and made an immediate impact, with his aggressive mentality.

“We come off the bench, so we want to come in with the same energy that the starters have to begin the game and if they are lacking energy we want to provide that lift off the bench,” said Patrick

The defense set the tone for the Quakers and this translated to success on the offensive side of the ball.

“Our activity level was really, really good. Getting deflections, creating some offense from our defense, so hopefully we can carry that into conference play,” said head coach K.C. Hunt.

At the end of the first half, Wilmington led by a score of 50-33. Senior guard Christian Jones led the Quakers with 15 points in the first half, while Lewis added 10 points off the bench.

Wilmington sustained their defensive intensity in the second half, and with 14 minutes left in the half, they were able to stretch their lead to 26. The Quakers never let their foot off the gas and were able to secure an 85-57 victory in their home opener.

After celebrating the win with his team, Lewis said, “It’s no better than getting that first one at home. We had to come out and put on for all students and family that came out. So, it was good to start off our home stand and get that W!”

Lewis finished with a game high 20 points, and Jones added 18 of his own.

The Quakers host Mount Union on Saturday, December 2nd to open up conference play.
