A wild squirrel in action on Wilmington College’s campus

If you are like me, then your day is not complete without seeing a squirrel do something weird on campus. We all see them, but often times we don’t want to believe what we see. The squirrels here are so outrageous, it is as if they are an entirely different species of rodent. Here are a few shocking stories that aren’t just plausible, they actually happened:

There’s one squirrel that hangs out around Pyle who is really fat and really friendly. He usually hangs out by the sidewalk going from Pyle to AP after meal times, waiting to see if anyone will give him tidbits of food. Sometimes, he sits right next to the sidewalk until you almost step on him, and then he jumps away and scares you. -Ellie Suggs

Last year, I saw a squirrel eating a brownie. There must have been something special inside of it because the squirrel was acting really weird. –Shelby Dodds

Last summer, I visited Montana. While there, I noticed how tiny and thin the squirrels were compared to the monster squirrels we have here at Wilmington College. My travel buddy and I thought the size disparity was just a difference in species. However, when I got back to the WC campus, I witnessed a campus squirrel literally hauling an entire Taco Bell quesadilla across the Marble parking lot. So, it’s probably not a species difference. -Hillary Mitchell

I’ve seen a darkcolored, almost black, squirrel hanging around AP and Pyle. There’s also a squirrel with no tail which is kind of disturbing to see. -Samantha Glish

We were walking to Pyle for dinner one night and my friend decided to be Steve Irwin from Animal Planet. So, he crouched down real low to try to catch a squirrel. He ended up chasing it up a tree but stopped when he couldn’t climb it himself. -Arianna Ricardi

My friends and I were walking out of Pyle and I went to throw away an apple in the outdoor trash can. We stopped when we heard a noise coming from the can, and when my one friend looked inside, this fat squirrel jumped out of it, scaring him to no end. -Joshua Cyrus

I know a girl who touched a squirrel, and when she did, the squirrel let out the most blood-curling scream I have ever heard. I’m still haunted to this day. -Jessica Fair
